Tenor Paul Gaugler (France) addressed Ukrainians with words of support during the full-scale Russian invasion and called on NATO to close the skies over Ukraine
Invited soloist of the Lviv National Opera, tenor Paul Gaugler (France) addressed Ukrainians with words of support during the full-scale Russian invasion and called on NATO to close the skies over Ukraine:
«Dear Ukrainian friends,
On the 20th of February I was singing in Lviv, Dvorak’s Requiem at the National Philharmonic, in memory of Heavenly Hundred. 4 days later, when the Russian army attacked, I was just back in Paris and I couldn’t imagine it, not in Europe!
The Ukrainian people, led by president Zelenskyy, immediately resisted with the immense courage of their Slavic soul, which impresses the whole world.
This war by Russia of Putin is a crime against Ukraine, its children, women, and men. It’s also a crime against the history, culture, and identity of Ukraine.
In autumn of 2021, thanks to director Vasyl Vovkun, I made my debut at the Lviv National Opera as Don José from «Carmen».This time at the Lviv Opera House, and generally all my experience in Ukraine, was amongst my most beautiful artistic and human adventures. I had the chance to meet and work with great people. Also, we do have plans for the future! But right now, my musician friends have to defend their country with weapons, as all soldiers and civilians, with such bravery.
I demand my country, France, Europe, and NATO to do more for Ukraine and to close its sky! I demand Europe and NATO to integrate Ukraine into all their institutions.
I call for peace in Ukraine! Слава Україні!»
We express our sincere gratitude for the clear position and warm words of support!
