#StandwithUkraine: Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater expresses support for Ukraine
Today, the general director of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater Jonas Sakalauskas visited the Lviv National Opera.
He, together with members of the team of the Lithuanian National Opera, arrived in Lviv, leading a humanitarian mission and handing over aid to migrants who are in our city.
Vasyl Vovkun, General Director and Artistic Director of the Lviv National Opera, and Ostap Hromysh, a specialist of international relations, had an effective meeting with Mr. Sakalauskas: in peacetime, future cooperation between the Lviv and Vilnius Opera Theaters is planned.
We truly thank our Lithuanian colleagues for their support, assistance in difficult times for Ukraine, as well as direct participation in the humanitarian mission!
It should be noted that the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater was one of the first to call on the European opera community to refrain from cooperating with russian and belarusian artists and institutions that have not publicly condemned russia’s war against Ukraine.
“If russian and belarusian participants refuse to condemn the aggression, their membership in Opera Europa should be revoked. Otherwise, we will not be able to stay with those who justify the war in Europe, “said in a statement: https://bit.ly/3HVfPAY
Also in support of Ukraine, the team of the Lithuanian National Opera recorded the performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGjicPkxb0s
