5th International Opera Singers Contest named Solomiya Krushelnytska is waiting for You!

The 5th International Solomiya Krushelnytska Opera Singers Competition will be held on November 12-22, 2019 at Lviv National Opera. The competition was started by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and is run by Lviv National Opera together with the National Ukrainian Music Union. The competition is held for the fifth time: it was first run in 1991 and was held with interruptions. The last competition was held in 2009.

The competition as well as Lviv Opera is named after the famous Ukrainian singer Solomiya Krushelnytska. “Undoubtedly, Solomiya Krushelnytska is among the greatest singers of the 20th century, therefore international contests and festivals of her name are significant events for us in the process of modern culture creation”, – says the general director – artistic director of Lviv National Opera Vasyl Vovkun.

Opera singers under the age of 35 are invited to participate in the contest. The application deadline is September 1, 2019.

The competition is held in three rounds. The offered program for Rounds 1 and 2 gives considerable emphasis on Ukrainian music, i.e. arias from the operas of Dmytro Bortnianskyi, Semen Hulak-Artemovskyi, Mykola Arkas, Mykola Lysenko, Denys Sichynskyi, Stanislav Liudkevych, Borys Liatoshynskyi, Mykhailo Verykivskyi, Konstantyn Dankevych, Anatolii Kos-Anatolskyi, Vitalii Hubarenko, Yevhen Stankovych and others.

The special feature of the competition is that in the third round, the contestants will perform in operas that are included in the theater repertoire. Thus, the audience can attend the performance and support the singers. The contest is also available online.

The singers will compete for large prizes, totalling over $ 35,000, as well as special prizes and awards.

The competitors will be judged by Jury from Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Germany, Moldova and Slovakia: soloist of the Vienna Opera Viktoriia Lukianets (Chairwoman of the Jury); Chief Conductor of Lviv National Opera Mykhailo Dutchak; soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine Oleksandr Diachenko; Head of the Opera Academy Department of the Warsaw National Opera, the chairwoman of Stanislaw Moniuszko International Vocal Competition Beata Klatka (Poland); soloist of Lviv National Opera Svitlana Mamchur; soloist of Polish Royal Opera Olga Pasichnyk (Ukraine-Poland); pianist, voice teacher, artistic advisor Eytan Pessen (Germany); Chief Conductor of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Moldova named after Maria Biesu Andrii Yurkevych (Ukraine-Moldova); Director of the ASART agency Slavomir Jakubek (Slovakia); director, opera singer Taras Rizniak (Secretary of the Jury).

The International organisation ‘Opera Europa’ has become a media partner of the International Solomiya Krushelnytska Opera Singers Competition.
