Requiem is a Mass in the Catholic Church offered for the repose of the soul of deceased persons. It is frequently, but not necessarily, celebrated in the context of a funeral. Requiem draws its name from the introit of the liturgy, which begins with the words “Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine” – “Grant them eternal rest, O Lord”. Starting from late Middle Ages requiems are used as concert works in the legacy of many European composers. The “Requiem” written by prominent Italian composer G. Verdi in 1874, features energetic rhythms, thoughtful and dramatic contrasts just like his beautiful operas. Strong emotions, expressed in beautiful melodies, give deep aesthetic feelings.
