Guest tour: Estonian and Ukrainian soloist sings the title role in L’elisir d’amore

Soloist of Estonian National Opera Pavlo Balakin stars in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in part of Dr Dulcamara on the 18th of Fabruary 2018. Pavlo Balakin graduated from the jazz saxophone class of Donetsk Music Academy in 2006. In 2002–2008 he sang in the chorus of the Ukrainian National Opera. Since 2008 he studies singing at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Prof. Mati Palm. In 2008–2013 he sung in the chorus of the Estonian National Opera and since 2013 he is a soloist. His repertoire includes Méphistophélès (Gounod’s “Faust”), Dulcamara (Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore”), Hermann (Wagner’s “Tannhäuser”), Ptolemy (Händel’s “Julius Caesar”), Verdi’s Attila (“Attila”, Teatro Massimo di Palermo), Ramfis (“Aida”), Monterone (“Rigoletto”) and Count Horn (“Un ballo in maschera”), Police Chief (Hindemith’s “Cardillac”), Surin (Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades”), Salieri (Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Mozart and Salieri”, concert performance) as well as bass parts in J. S. Bach’s “St John Passion” and “St Matthew’s Passion”, Verdi’s “Requiem”, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Strauss’s “Deutsche Motette” and Rossini’s “Petite messe solennelle”. In 2013 Pavlo Balakin won the Annual Estonian Theatre Award.
